My Big Picks

Well, I have been waiting by the mailbox, for my invitation for sportswriters to pick the big awards of this years NBA players. But it doesn’t appear to be coming so instead I have decided just to share my picks with you.

Rookie of the Year - Ben Gordon: Now its true Okafor put up great numbers, but he did so on a bad team. Gordon put up good numbers on a good team and was a big reason his team was so good. I'm not sure I’m ready for the air Gordon references; But Gentle Ben doesn’t fit the bill either. Honorable Mention: Emeka Okafor

Defensive Player of the Year - Bruce Bowen: He's really just a sane version of Ron Artest. And with Artest being out this year, And Big Ben Wallace calming a little, in a close race, I'd give it to Bowen. Honorable Mention: Ben Wallace, Tyson Chandler, Andres Nocoini

6th Man of the Year – Ben Gordon: Yes again Ben Gordon, he’s been great this year. He’s first in the league in Bench scoring, Is second in the league in 4th quarter scoring (Only behind LeBron James). Its true Jerry Stackhouse, and Ricky Davis both played well, but nowhere close to Ben Gordon.

Most Improved Player – Vince Carter: I’m sure I’m the only one giving him this award, but Carter finished last season as almost a joke, and started this season the same way. However after a trade to New Jersey, Carter again emerged as a Superstar in this league and led his team into the playoffs. Honorable Mention: Dwayne Wade, Eddy Curry, Steve Nash

Coach of the Year – Scott Skiles: The Bulls had 23 wins last year, brought in 4 rookies, had the youngest team in the league, and had 47 wins this year despite heavy injuries at the end of the season. Its true D’Antoini, Stan Van Gundy, & McMillan all had better records, But with there vet heavy, All-star filled teams they should have. Honorable Mention: D’Antoini, Stan Van Gundy, & McMillan.

Most Valuable Player – LeBron James: I know, I know, they usually say the MVP needs to be on a winning team. But the heat could win some games without Shaq, The Suns could win some games without Shaq, and the Spurs could win some without Duncan. But lets face, I’m not sure the Cavs could have even found the court if not for the skill and leadership of James. Honorable Mention: Shaq, Wade, Nash, Allen
